Many have left messages or called concerning our combined bus route and designated pick up / drop off points. Due to losing a CDL Certified Driver, the Transportation Director Ramon Follmar worked diligently to combine two bus routes due to no applicants or drivers. The shortage of bus drivers is state wide - our district even pays for individuals to take the course, test, and drive. The school district picks up those costs - many districts do not.
It is unfortunate that we are dealing with this issue and we need your assistance to distribute the information.
We are not financially strapped / broke OR can't afford drivers - we have no applicants or drivers. CISD has a healthy fund balance (approximately 4 million dollars ) Routes were merged together in the most effective and efficient manner in order to ensure that students were not on the bus for 2 plus hours. AS a district, we do not like our current situation but we are honestly doing the very best that we can concerning the lack of drivers.
The only solution is FINDING a BUS DRIVER.
We also polled the following districts - Spurger, Woodville, Livingston, Big Sandy, Chester, and Warren all have designated bus drop off and pick up - have for several years.
With your assistance in disseminating the information, hopefully we will have several applicants from the community that desire to drive a bus. Thank you.
