Seniors must simply write an essay on “The Importance of Economic Development in Tyler County” and submit their essay during the Mobiloil Credit Union "Budget Reality Check" workshop for juniors and seniors Thursday, 5/20/21, at 6 p.m. at the Nutrition Center at 201 Veterans Way in Woodville (behind Whataburger). HIGH SCHOOL PARENT/STUDENT INFORMATIONAL MEETINGS - A mandatory meeting for all 8th graders & parents will be held on Wednesday, May 19th at 5pm in the band hall. This meeting is to discuss high school information, grad plans, and course requests. - High School Informational Sessions will be held on Thursday, May 20th in the high school library. We will have two sessions for your convenience, 10am-11am and 1pm-2pm. This is for high school students or parents who would like to ask questions or get new information about grad plans or course requests for the upcoming school year.
Another Career Option - Become a Certified Texas Firefighter Registration is open for the upcoming Fall 2021 Angelina College Fire Academy. This is a workforce education program, so it does not lead to a degree, but it does prepare individuals to become a certified Texas firefighter. Fire Academy will begin August 23 and end December 17. The cadets will meet Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Nacogdoches. See Mrs. Franco for a copy of the Fire Academy application with details about the program. Tyler County Area Go Texan Scholarship - Application Deadline 5/15/21 The Tyler County local scholarship committee will give away one scholarship to a senior from each school through this application process. This means a Colmesneil student WILL win a scholarship. Trade school to 4 year programs all are accepted for this local scholarship. All certifications and majors are eligible. In addition, one Tyler County senior will be awarded a $20,000.00 scholarship! Students may obtain an application from Mrs. Franco.

Brent Thompson Memorial Scholarship - Application Deadline 4/1/21 The Southeast Texas Coaches Association (SETCA) will be awarding a $500 scholarship to a varsity athlete who has participated for a SETCA school within the current school year and is planning to pursue a degree, certification or employment in the Law Enforcement field. Colmesneil High School is a SETCA school. SETCA has established a memorial scholarship fund in the name of fallen DART Police Officer, Brent Thompson. Officer Thompson was shot and killed in the line of duty in Dallas, Texas on July 7, 2016. Officer Thompson's fearlessness and willingness to serve is an inspiration to all. His family’s roots in Southeast Texas include his brother, Darrell Thompson, who has coached at Crosby and Baytown Lee. Smith-Hutson Scholarship - Application Deadline 3/26/21 This is a fantastic scholarship that covers almost all college expenses! Several former Colmesneil graduates have received it. The Smith-Hutson Freshman Scholarship awards up to $18,500 a year for four years, and will automatically renew for a maximum of eight semesters, provided that scholars maintain program requirements. Hagan Scholarship Foundation - Application deadline 12/1/2020 The purpose of the Hagan Scholarship is to provide high-achieving students from small towns and rural areas with the opportunity to obtain a four-year college education and graduate debt-free! Five hundred of these need-based merit scholarships will be awarded in April 2021. About forty percent (40%) of eligible applicants are awarded scholarships. This is the highest award percentage of any national scholarship. The scholarship provides up to $48,000 over four years to attend college. Recipients must have achieved a high school GPA of 3.75, be ranked in the top 20% of the high school graduating class, and enroll at an eligible four-year not-for-profit college or university the first semester following high school graduation. Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student (MVS) Scholarship - Application Deadline 11/15/2020 The Elks National Foundation will award 500 four-year scholarships ranging from $4,000 to $50,000 ($1,000 per year to $12,500 per year). Applicants do not have to be related to a member of the Elks to qualify. Scholarships are available only to high school seniors pursuing a four-year degree, on a full-time basis (minimum of 12 semester hours), in a U.S. college or university. It is acceptable for a student to enroll in a two-year college for the first two years of the four-year program. Applicants are not required to take the ACT or SAT. Male and female students compete separately. Applications are judged on academics, leadership, service/community involvement, and financial need. Our Junior High football team will now play Hull-Daisetta on Thursday @ Hull-Daisetta @ 4:30. It will be a scrimmage format. Lady Dogs started off strong in the Deweyville Tournament. They beat Bridge City JV 42-22. Then fell to West Orange Stark 23-41 in a hard fought game. We will play in the third place game at 2:00 Saturday in Deweyville.

Elysian Fields Results This past weekend the Bulldog Speech Team traveled to Elysian Fields for a tournament. Overall the team was very successful. The results include: Autumn Rose 1st in Lincoln-Douglas with a perfect score, she also took second in Informative Speaking Morgan Belt and Ethan Eveland placed 2nd in CX Debate, Morgan also placed 3rd in Informative Speaking and Ethan placed .4th in Persuasive Speaking Thaddeus Woods placed 6th in Persuasive Speaking Nathaneil Rackley placed 6th in Informative Speaking Scott Eddins placed 1st in Poetry with straight ones on all ballots. Lindsey Courtney placed 3rd in Poetry and 5th Informative Speaking Avery Broussard placed 4th in poetry In Prose Kaci Ferguson placed 1st with a perfect ranking in all rounds. Susie Dobbins placed 3rd. This weekend the team will be travelling to Center.
The Jr. HIgh Girls Basketball team will start their season on Monday, Nov. 11 in Warren. The girls will take on the Warren Lady Warriors. According to 8th grade student Kathy Martinez, "the team is growing stronger each practice and ready for the first game." Take the short drive to Warren and support the Jr. High Girls Basketball team. Go Dogs!! Make sure you attend the football game Friday night. The CHS twirlers have a special performance planned for the last home game of the season. The twirlers are excited to show off their skills during half time. Senior Night will be held this Friday, November 8 at 6:30 pm. Seniors from Band, Football and Volleyball will be recognized at the pre-game festivities
